Maynard Ferguson Tribute in Glasgow.

Another last minute one! Bryan Davis will be heading up to Glasgow this Friday, the 31st of July, to play with the Ryan Quigley Big Band. Ryan is presenting a Tribute to Maynard Ferguson featuring all the old favourites – Gonna Fly Now, MacArthur Park, Give It One etc. Bryan will be backing him up in the Trumpet section and may even be persuaded to take on a couple of Maynard parts too!

The gig takes place at The Ferry, 25 Anderston Quay, Glasgow and starts at 8pm. If you’re in the Glasgow area, please come out and support live music. There are various ticket options for this gig; some including dinner. Full details can be found at: http://www.the-ferry.co.uk/events.asp?e=581.

Last Minute Jazz!

Bryan Davis will now be playing tomorrow night (Wed. 22nd July) at The Swan in Liversedge, W. Yorkshire. He’ll be featured alongside the Rod Mason, and his collection of saxophones, with the Brian Jackson Trio. He’s filling in for trombonist Kevin Holbrough who’s had to withdraw due to ill health. Get well soon Kev!

The Swan is located at the junction between the A62 and A638 in Liversedge, West Yorkshire. Here is a Google Maps link.

Austrian Return

Bryan will be returning to Austria in September, although not with the band he initially expected! He has had to put in a substitute for the Lower Austrian Concert Jazz Orchestra tour in late September and October because of his impending emigration to the USA. For the tours in Austria and China(!) this Autumn, the lead Trumpet chair will be filled by Roger Ingram! If you’re going to fix a sub, you might as well fix a good one!

Then, just as the LACJO tour was sorted out, Bryan ran into his dear friend Thomas Gansch on a Mnozil Brass date in Durham, UK. Thomas invited him to come back for a spell with his band Gansch & Roses for their concerts and recording dates in mid-September. So, Bryan will be back to visit his Austrian friends for a last hoorah, and a couple of weissbiers, before the big move.

The dates are in the Calendar; the concerts are on September 11th in Frankenfels and the 15th at Porgy & Bess in Vienna, with the Studio recording in between. Please come on out and see a concert and say hello!

Edit: Some lesson times will be available while Bryan is in Austria – certainly time will be available on September 15th before the concert at Porgy & Bess in Vienna. If there is sufficient interest in lessons or a masterclass, it may be possible for Bryan to organise his travel plans to spend an extra day or two in Vienna. Please contact Bryan very soon so this can be arranged.

More Last Minute Gigs

The last minute calls are coming thick and fast for Bryan today. He will be playing this evening in Salford, at the Willows Rugby Club with The Motown Show and tomorrow (Sun 26th April) he’ll be playing Lead Trumpet with the Wigan Jazz Club Big Band on their Sunday lunchtime set.  Details of the gigs are on the Calendar. Come out and support Live Music if you have the chance.

This just in: Bryan Davis will be playing at the Harrogate Jazz Club this coming Tuesday (28th April ’09) with Jim Corry‘s “A Tribute To Atlantic Jazz“. This fine septet features tunes recorded on, and in the spirit of, the “Soul Jazz” recorded on Atlantic Records in the 1970s and ’80s. It promises to be a great night.
