About

Bryan Davis grew up in the resort town of Cleethorpes, NE Lincolnshire, in the UK. He started to play the Trumpet at the age of 8. He received his initial musical training at school and in local youth bands and orchestras. He received his first exposure to Jazz and Big Bands at age 15 and began to attend rehearsals for the UK’s National Youth Jazz Orchestra at age 17.

In 1993, Bryan moved to Leeds to take up a place at the city’s College of Music on the Jazz Studies degree course. Upon his arrival he also joined nightclub band Jazz Amiga with whom he gained professional experience touring the UK while continuing his studies by day. At Leeds he studied Trumpet with Richard Iles and Dick Hawdon. In 1996 Bryan rejoined the NYJO and played with them regularly until 2002. During this time he toured with the band in Portugal and performed at Ronnie Scott’s Club, at the BBC Proms and recorded on 5 of NYJO’s CDs and one DVD.

Following graduation in 1997, Bryan continued to live in Leeds and firmly established himself in the City’s thriving Music scene. He became a founder member of the well-known Leeds salsa group Casa Latina Allstars with whom he played support to Tito Puente, Isaac Delgado and Tania Maria. He has worked in a wide spectrum of commercial music including Big Bands, small group jazz, latin bands and pop horn Sections both in live performance and in the studio. Early freelance work included appearances with the BBC Big Band, Phil Woods, Bill Watrous, Rob McConnell, Andy Prior Big Band, Roberto Pla, Jesus Alemany, the Three Degrees, the Supremes, the Brasshoppers, the Glenn Miller Tribute Orchestra and the Squadronnaires, amongst many others.

Since 1999, Bryan has spent much of his time touring with musical theatre shows. He has completed European tours of shows including 42nd Street, Cabaret and The Official Tribute to… The Blues Brothers, with which he also performed on the UK Tour and in London’s West End. In 2004, he joined The Rat Pack – Live from Las Vegas as 2nd Trumpet. He was promoted to Lead Trumpet in early 2006 and continued to tour with the show until the end of 2009.

Latterly, Bryan’s travels with The Rat Pack took him on tour in the USA. From October 2006, Bryan travelled with The Rat Pack – Live At The Sands US National Tour as one of just 4 travelling musicians with the show. He is delighted to have met and worked with so many wonderful musicians during the course of visiting so many US cities. This has also given him the opportunity to continue his studies. He has benefited enormously from the tutelage of Jazz Trumpeter extraordinaire Brian Lynch and another of his heroes; legendary Lead trumpeter Roger Ingram.

In gaps between tours, Bryan maintained a busy schedule of freelance work in the UK and Europe. During 2008 and ’09 he played in a wide of array of musical situations ranging from commercial production shows to jazz tours with Austria’s premiere jazz trumpeter Thomas Gansch and his band; Gansch & Roses, and gigs with explosive Latin-Jazz Big Band La Gran Descarga, the fabulous Syd Lawrence Orchestra and the Glenn Miller Orchestra UK. In August 2008 he was appointed as Lead Trumpet to the state-funded Lower Austria Concert Jazz Orchestra, and has since recorded the band’s Live CD and completed 2 short tours through Austria. Further dates are planned for 2010 and beyond.

In late 2009, Bryan Davis emigrated to the USA. Now based in New York City, he has started to become involved in the thriving music scene. He has performed with numerous groups in the US including the Artie Shaw Orchestra, the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, Danny Seraphine’s CTA, Mr Ho’s Orchestrotica, the New Life Jazz Orchestra, the Nathan Parker Large Ensemble, Obbini Tumbao, the “Legally Blonde” National Tour, among many others. In addition, he has become increasingly involved with music education, not only teaching trumpet lessons, in person and online via Skype, but also leading clinics and workshops around the country; at institutions including NYU and Fullerton College in California.

In December 2011, Bryan is planning a brief return to the UK, where he will play Lead Trumpet for the limited engagements of “Christmas With The Rat Pack” and, in January 2012, “The Rat Pack – Live From Las Vegas” in London’s West End.
