About
Bryan Davis was born in October 1974 in Plymouth and grew up in Cleethorpes, NE Lincolnshire. He started to play the Trumpet at the age of 8. He received his initial musical training at school, in local Brass Bands and later as a member of local youth music organisation the GCDYO. In 1992, while still at school, he started to attend NYJO rehearsals and played his first NYJO concert in July of that year.
In 1993, Bryan moved to Leeds to take up a place at Leeds College of Music on the Jazz Studies degree course. Upon his arrival he also joined Nightclub band Jazz Amiga with whom he gained professional experience touring the UK while continuing his studies by day. At Leeds he studied Trumpet with Richard Iles and Dick Hawdon. In 1996 Bryan rejoined NYJO and played with them regularly until 2000. During this time he performed with the band in Portugal, at Ronnie Scott’s Club, at the BBC Proms and recorded on 5 of NYJO’s CDs. He continued to perform with them occasionally during 2001 & 2002.
Since graduating in 1997, Bryan has continued to live in Leeds and has firmly established himself in the City’s thriving Music scene. He became a founder member of the well-known Leeds salsa group Casa Latina Allstars with whom he played support to Tito Puente, Isaac Delgado and Tania Maria. He has worked in a wide spectrum of Commercial music including Big Bands, small group jazz, Latin bands and Pop Horn Sections both in Live performance and on Recordings. He has also toured for numerous musical theatre shows including “The Official Tribute to… The Blues Brothers“ and “The Rat Pack- Live From Las Vegas“ both in the UK and on the European Tours based in Germany. More recently, Bryan’s travels with The Rat Pack have taken him on tour in the USA. Since October 2006, Bryan has travelled with The Rat Pack - Live At The Sands US National Tour as one of just 4 travelling musicians with the show. He is delighted to have met and worked with so many wonderful musicians during the course of visiting so many US cities. This has also given him the opportunity to continue his studies. In addition to his previous tutelage from Jazz Trumpeter extraordinaire Brian Lynch, Bryan has now had the chance to take lessons with one of his heroes; legendary Lead trumpeter Roger Ingram.
In gaps between tours, Bryan still maintains a busy schedule of freelance work in the UK and Europe. During 2007 he was found playing in a wide of array of musical situations ranging from commercial production shows such as One Night with Elvis and Dancing In The Streets, to jazz tours with Austria’s premiere jazz trumpeter Thomas Gansch and his band; Gansch & Roses, and gigs with explosive Latin-Jazz Big Band; La Gran Descarga. He also, very occasionally, leads his own Jazz quintet.
